Aftermath

Established in 1949 to support Palestinian refugees, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has produced numerous films over the years. Aftermath documents UNRWA’s response to the Six Day War in 1967, where Palestinian people were displaced and dispossessed yet again nearly 20 years after the Nakba in 1948. Aftermath reflects on the exodus as seen from Jordan, where refugees fled to. Though directed by Palestinian filmmaker Samir Hissen, it is notable that the film was written and produced by Myrtle Winter, a UN diplomat who worked in the Department of Public Information at UNRWA. Aftermath documents an emergency camp set up by the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which, with the scale of displaced people, was continually short of tents. A recurring feature of relief agency films is that we do not hear Palestinian voices.

Final Absolution: History of a Photograph

During a military uprising known as “El Porteñazo”, a priest is photographed while trying to help a soldier wounded in combat. The photo travels the world and is awarded the most important prizes in photojournalism, such as the Pulitzer Prize and the World Press. Throughout this documentary, photographers, editors and witnesses reveal various aspects surrounding that image: who is the priest, who was its author, the events that surrounded the photographic event, what was its political role and what said image represents in the history of Venezuelan journalism. Additionally, it allows the presentation of other photographs, some unpublished, that Rondón managed to capture in those difficult moments.

Taken from her parents during a time when Aboriginal children were removed from their families through Government mandated policy, Helen was raised by a middle-class family in the suburbs of Perth and believed she was their biological daughter until the age of 14. Despite being raised by a very loving foster family, Helen has never felt like she truly belonged. Not white, not black, she walks a very lonely grey line. This is her story of hurt, a longing to find her true self and to finally be accepted for who she is.

In the desert there's a European colony, an occupied country called Western Sahara, where there are thousands of Sahrawi refugees living a hard life in exile. "Little Sahara" tells their story, the story of a supportive, resilient people who try to thrive and grow in the Hamada, where everything has a hard time growing.
