A decade later, as the officers involved are acquitted, the film revisits the voices of those who lived through the uprising. Through their stories, it explores what remains of that anger and how their view of society has evolved.

The Eternal Struggle

Aleksandr, a defense officer and mission veteran from a Russian family, decides to leave the service after a successful 15-year career to provide a better life for his children. Having led dozens of men in a dangerous war, Aleksandr quickly discovers that ordinary life is harder for him than the battlefield. To become the best, he must start from scratch. Aleksandr tries his hand at private business several times, but all his ventures – various catering companies in Tapa and Tallinn, a flower shop and a sports club – fail. After several failures and introspection, Aleksandr finally finds a way to apply the valuable knowledge he gained on the battlefield to the civilian sector. He starts offering team and leadership training to Estonian companies, applying the skills and knowledge he gained from the war.

This award-winning feature examines a minority group that is discounted and often ignored by mainstream media. Sharing a common past, many African Americans and Native Americans have combined to create a unique culture that has meshed the traditions and fine heritage of both. Little known, little documented, and often marginalized, this group has become all but invisible at the dawn of the new millennium. James Earl Jones narrates this examination of the historical relationship between American Indians and African-Americans, who often merged their cultures to work and live together while mainstream white society shunned them. Through illuminating anecdotes and interviews, descendants of fused black and Indian families discuss the complications of their mixed heritage and how their culture was largely erased on official documents.

Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment

During a two-day period before and after the University of Alabama integration crisis, the film uses five camera crews to follow President John F. Kennedy, attorney general Robert F. Kennedy, Alabama governor George Wallace, deputy attorney general Nicholas Katzenbach and the students Vivian Malone and James Hood. As Wallace has promised to personally block the two black students from enrolling in the university, the JFK administration discusses the best way to react to it, without rousing the crowd or making Wallace a martyr for the segregationist cause. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with The Film Foundation in 1999.

Voices

In the Bambara language, in Burkina Faso, the term Kandia, composed of the words "Kan" (vocals) and "Dia" (beauty), means "the good voice", but also "the beauty that the voice produces". In the heart of Lecce in Puglia, a chorus of voices sing their own humanity. They sing in Italian, Tamil, Swahili ... An example of integration between peoples.

Berg Fidel

If children don't learn from an early age that people are different, when will they? The documentary focuses on four children at the inclusive Berg Fidel primary school in Münster. Director Hella Wenders spent three years following David, Jakob, Lucas, and Anita with her camera at school, at home, and in their free time. While the idea of an open school is currently the subject of lively debate, this sensitive portrait film gives the children a voice. They talk about themselves and share their dreams and concerns with us. The viewer is impressed by how naturally they interact with each other and becomes part of a small world that functions in a miraculous way.
