The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Hugo Chavez was a colourful, unpredictable folk hero who was beloved by his nation’s working class. He was elected president of Venezuela in 1998, and proved to be a tough, quixotic opponent to the power structure that wanted to depose him. When he was forcibly removed from office on 11 April 2002, two independent filmmakers were inside the presidential palace.

After the Glacier

Jhonny Quintero, the only survivor of the catastrophe in Mérida, Venezuela, in 2000, relives his tragic accident in which a group of high mountain hikers were buried by a block of ice and snow. This event led to a rescue operation that lasted 16 days, known as Operation Humboldt. During this time, an arduous search was conducted to locate the missing and rescue the survivors under extreme conditions.

The Promise of Music

The documentary accompanied the work of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.

Venezuela: Revolution from the Inside Out

The film gives the history of Venezuela from 1989 to 2004 and then explores some of the projects sponsored by the Bolivarian government, including the financing of cooperatives as a way of building the Socialism of the 21st century.

El Paraíso

The film consists of video tapes made by the filmmaker’s father documenting daily scenes of family life, family celebrations, and holidays over the course of fifteen years. The tapes are a mixture of the personal and the political – the father was politically engaged in the revolutionary movement that brought Hugo Chávez to power. The family’s life becomes a backdrop for political and economic developments in Venezuela and their impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.

A Dangerous Assignment: Uncovering Corruption in Maduro’s Venezuela

In 2016, Venezuela introduced the CLAP program to provide essential food items during the economic crisis. However, Armando.info journalists discovered that the powdered milk included was deficient in calcium and high in sodium. Investigations revealed Alex Saab, a government contractor, was behind the overpriced imports. Journalist Roberto Deniz exposed Saab’s corruption and fled to Colombia due to threats. From there, he uncovered Saab's money laundering for Maduro and bribes to opposition members. Saab was arrested in Cape Verde and extradited to the US. Saab must choose to collaborate with US authorities or face trial, while Deniz, in exile, continues his reporting despite personal risks.

A compelling story about Grammy-winning Venezuelan funksters Los Amigos Invisibles, from their early days playing in Caracas, Venezuela, to being discovered by David Byrne of Talking Heads and their rise to international stardom. The viewer experiences their story as it intertwines with a live performance filmed at the Highline Ballroom in New York City in March 2011. The band, with the same original 6 members, celebrates 20 years in 2011.
