Great Plains: America's Lingering Wild

Nature photographer Michael Forsberg examines the remaining “wildness” in the Great Plains of North America. Featuring stunning imagery, the program is based on Forsberg’s book of the same name. Less than 200 years ago, the Great Plains was one of the greatest grassland ecosystems on Earth, stretching nearly a million square miles down the heart of the continent. The prairie was a place of constant motion, shaped by an unforgiving cycle of the seasons. Huge numbers of bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, prairie dogs, prairie wolves and even grizzlies were common. There were massive migrations of birds and fish. But as America grew, and the land was settled and tamed, the wildness began disappearing. Today the Great Plains is a fragile and threatened ecosystem, home to a variety of wildlife and habitats. In this documentary, Forsberg examines the wildlife and native landscapes that remain, exploring the current condition of the plains.

Motion

Motion features host Greg Aiello as he explores a variety of outdoor activities. From the Channel Islands in California to Bryce Canyon National Park, Maui, and Big Sur, Aiello takes a Nature-lovers perspective on exploration. Often times filmed solely by Aiello himself, the show acts as a guide on how to adventure to less-traveled places. Camping on a budget, kayaking with friends, and hiking mountains with safety cables are examples of Aiello's hobbies that are documented for viewers to see. Each half hour episode takes viewers to a location off the beaten path, with directions on exactly how to get there. With summer and winter vacations highlighted, Motion is produced with the average outdoorsmen in mind. Aiello narrates throughout, providing an inside look into his climbing, hiking, photography, and general fitness abilities.

The Search for Solutions

A nine part television series, produced by J.C. Crimmins for PBS. Music composed, arranged and performed by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. The stated purpose of “The Search for Solutions” is to stimulate interest in science and technology, primarily among the young. The film comprises nine 18-minute sections touching on various aspects of scientific inquiry that its makers say can be shown as a whole, as it is in this engagement, or in any combination of its parts.

Curiosity

Curiosity is an American documentary television series that premiered on August 7, 2011, on the Discovery Channel. Each episode focuses on one question in science, technology, and society and features a different celebrity host. Stephen Hawking hosted the premiere episode titled "Did God Create the Universe?", which aired simultaneously on seven Discovery Communications networks: Discovery Channel, TLC, Discovery Fit and Health, Animal Planet, Science, Investigation Discovery, and Planet Green. Season one consists of 16 episodes.

The Queen's Garden

Gardener Alan Titchmarsh is given exclusive access to the Buckingham Palace Garden in this two-part programme, as he visits the site over the course of a year, discovering hidden secrets as it changes across the seasons. He begins at the summer garden party where 8,000 people are invited on to the grounds, and meets beekeeper John Chapple as he harvests honey. He also explores the garden's origin, learning it was part of Henry VIII's hunting ground, and views the Rose Garden in late summer. As autumn arrives he watches the lawn being prepared for a special football match, and meets deputy gardens manager Claire Midgley-Adam as she battles to save a tree planted by the Queen's father George VI. He then helps royal florist Sharon Gaddes-Croasdale prepare the palace with holly and mistletoe at Christmas

Advances in forensic sciences have led to the resolution of complex cases thanks to microscopic clues. The documentary series Police Scientifique analyses crimes committed in Quebec, which were solved thanks to science and new police techniques. Experts and detectives recount how they reconstituted the circumstances of various murders, by using ballistics, toxicology, chemistry, physics, biology and even entomology. These testimonies come with those of the victim’s loved ones, along with realistic constitutions that put the scale of these tragic events in images.
